SUBJECT : Cold Booting With Drives < 1024 Cylinders
DATE : 6/8/90
FYI # : 060890th
OS VERSION : 286
REVISION :
SHELL VERSION :
PROBLEM : When cold booting the file server you get
garbage on the screen or errors reading the hot fix redirection
table.
SOLUTION : This problem sometimes occurs when using a
hard drive that has more than 1024 cylinders. Some of the
sectors of the Net$os.exe file may have been written to cylinders
greater than 1024. Most likely, this would only happen if the
operating system was re-installed.
A work around is to backup your system and then use DOS 4.0 to
install a bootable DOS partition. Then you can copy the
Net$os.exe file to your C: drive and use an Autoexec.bat file to
boot NetWare.
